Back for the second year, the Holland Project with Hug High School and the Nevada Museum of Art present The Stranger Show this Friday (November 18).  If you forget easily, The Stranger Show is one of the coolest things we do ever.  We pair a Hug High art student with an awesome local artist and let the creative energy fly.  The pairs collaborate to create an original work of art using the theme “strange.”  This is the second official exhibit in the new Holland Gallery, and we highly recommend you come check out the 20+ pairings and support Hug’s super talents.  Plus!  Special treats provided by the Hug High culinary class.  This Friday, 11/18, 6-8pm, free!

Who Cares w/ Spitting Image and Octophonix

Holy mother of multi-genre shows! Hip-hop giants Who Cares are playing with art rockers Spitting Image and sometimes 8-bit, but always awesome, Octophonix on Friday, November 18. Who Cares opened the Holland Project in 2007 to the biggest crowd the original Keystone location ever saw.  Come make this night just as perfect.  To repeat, this show is going to rule. Friday November 18, after the Stranger Show at the Holland Project (140 Vesta).  Only $5 (SO CHEAP!).  Come at 8PM!

Crochet Workshop

Nothing’s better for surviving the winter than a big ol’ scarf to wrap up in, especially one that you’ve made yourself. This Saturday beginning at noon, Sarah Geo will teach you the basics of crochet to make a scarf. For $5 you will get hands-on instructions and help including needles and yarn. If you already have a yarn picked out that you’d like to use, bring it along! Please RSVP to [email protected] to reserve a spot.

Don’t Panic’s last show

Don’t Panic, Reno’s premier young ska band is playing their final show, and they plan on making it a show you will not soon forget. With the smooth sound of Lonely Planet Travel and the mighty musicianship of the ever grooving Freebasing Coffee Grounds, this show from start to finish will be terrific. If this lineup isn’t good enough as it is, every ticket purchase will get you a free t-shirt! You’d be silly not to see this final show. Doors open at 7:30pm, show begins at 8:00pm.  Pre-sale tickets: $5/$7 at the door.

Showprint Interns Needed!

Showpaper started in NYC as a free, bi-weekly, print only guide to all-ages events city-wide. There are variations of the original in cities all over the place, now including Reno as Showprint. In order to keep the Reno Showprint going we need your help! We are looking for a couple of high school students to intern with the Holland Project in producing Showprint for December-March. You will learn how calendar layout; help acquire sponsors;  research and find upcoming events; select feature artists; and the best part….how to use a Vandercook Letterpress to print.  Have a say in how Reno’s all-ages scene is represented in a super cool way!  If you’re interested please email Sarah at [email protected] for more information.
