SAINT MARY’S NEWS RELEASE

Saint Mary’s Hospice recognizes the unique needs of American veterans and their families and recently achieved Partner Level One status through the “We Honor Veterans” program (WHV). As a national partner, Saint Mary’s Hospice provides veteran-specific education to staff and volunteers, enhancing patient care.

“’We Honor Veterans’ goes to great lengths to assist medical personnel with comprehending the emotional and physical impact that military experiences have on veterans and their families,” Dr. Reed Dopf, assistant medical director for Saint Mary’s Hospice. “The program enhances our philosophy of caring and is a great resource that enables us to restore peace in our veteran patients, helping them to live a fuller, more meaningful life- even in the wake of serious illness.”

“We Honor Veterans” is a national program developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The program is focused on guiding hospices, state hospice organizations, Hospice-Veteran Partnerships and VA facilities to develop programs and resources specifically for veterans and their families.

Saint Mary’s Hospice achieved Partner Level One by providing multiple training opportunities for staff and volunteers to learn about veteran care. Hospice personnel have also developed partnerships with local VA facilities to ensure veteran patients are receiving quality healthcare and resources.
