image001-5340795-6113058Learn to control pests using natural methods and get rid of old, unsafe pesticides on the same day, Sat., May 14, at Rail City Garden Center, 1720 Brierley Way in Sparks.

A free Green College seminar on controlling pests Nature’s way is scheduled at 11 a.m., and free disposal of old, unsafe pesticides will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Controlling Pests Nature’s Way will include discussions and demonstrations of natural methods of pest management for your yard using organic, traps and IPM methods. Several supplier representatives will be on hand to answer questions.

While the Green College Seminar is free, the donation of one can of food for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada is encouraged. Seating is limited so call 775-355-1551 to register and reserve your seat.

Free pesticide disposal
The free pesticide disposal at Rail City Garden Center provides the perfect opportunity for gardeners to safely rid garages and sheds of old pesticides.

Only insecticides, herbicides and rodent baits will be accepted in this free disposal event in cooperation with the Nevada Department of Agriculture and News Talk 780 KOH. No fertilizers, paint, oil or anti-freeze will be accepted.

While the disposal of pesticides is free, gardeners are encouraged to bring a donation of a can of food for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada in exchange for the disposal service.
