SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Representative Dean Heller’s vote today to shut down hundreds of clinics nationwide that provide vital health services to hundreds of thousands is the latest assault on women and the poor. Heller’s vote imperils access to doctors, prescription drug assistance, counseling and much needed healthcare for 18,000 women here in Washoe County, and will force many to turn to emergency room care that costs us all dearly.

“I am deeply concerned with how out of touch some of our United States Representatives have become, particularly Dean Heller,” said Chip Evans, chair of the Democratic Party of Washoe County (WashoeDEMS).

“In lockstep with the new House Republican majority, Rep. Heller refuses to responsibly address healthcare issues that affect millions of people, and instead votes to brutalize women already hurting in our struggling economy,” added Evans.

Hopefully, under Democratic U.S. Sen. Harry Reid’s leadership, the Senate will stop the House’s irresponsible behavior, continued Evans. These ruthless attempts to set our country back, instead of moving it forward, need to stop.

Every Nevadan needs to remember this vote the next time they see Dean Heller’s name on a ballot, concludes Evans.
