RENO, Nev. Vaccines play a key role in controlling infectious diseases and as flu season approaches, now is a great time to protect yourself and your family.  Saint Mary’s Immunizations is now offering a variety of flu shot clinics throughout the community, in addition to adult and children’s appointments at their main office.  Saint Mary’s Immunization Clinic is located at 343 Elm St., Suite 203, and appointments can be made by calling 775-770-7100.

“Getting a flu vaccine is simple and can play a major part in reducing missed days of work or school, promote a healthier home and workplace, and lower costs and inconvenience associated with managing illness,” said Mary Bristol, supervisor at Saint Mary’s Immunizations.  “This year’s combined flu vaccine also protects against the H1N1 virus, so you will have an extra level of protection from the flu virus.”

Saint Mary’s Immunization Program will offer flu shots for $28 each and high dose flu vaccines for those 65 and older are available through the immunization clinic.  Saint Mary’s HealthFirst or Health Choice members can receive a flu shot at no charge at Saint Mary’s community flu shot sites or at the Saint Mary’s Immunization Clinic.  Individuals with Medicare Part B (if it’s the primary insurance) and Senior Dimension members can receive flu shots at Saint Mary’s flu shot clinics at no charge.

Pneumonia shots will also be provided for $55 and are available for adults age 65 and older or those with certain medical conditions.  Adults 19 to 64 who smoke or have asthma may also receive a pneumonia shot.  In addition, Saint Mary’s Health Plan members, Medicare Part B members and Senior Dimension members can also receive a pneumonia shot at no charge.
