100 Years of Nevada History: The Story of the Nevada Historical Society
Reno, Nevada. For over 100 years, the Nevada Historical Society in Reno has been working hard to preserve the history of this state. In 2004, the Society celebrated its Centennial anniversary with a special exhibition and tribute to Jeanne Elizabeth Wier, the Society’s first director and the woman responsible for saving much of Nevada’s history. That story was captured in the documentary “100 Years of Nevada History: The Story of the Nevada Historical Society.” The Nevada Historical Society will present the video documentary, a half-hour episode from the Department of Cultural Affairs’ Exploring Nevada series, at noon on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 as part of their free High Noon series.
Following the video is a presentation and question and answer period by Sheryln Hayes-Zorn, the acting Director of the Nevada Historical Society.
Through this video presentation, viewers will hear the story of founding director Jeanne Elizabeth Wier, whose vision inspired the creation of the Society in 1904, and whose dogged determination moved the dream forward. Viewers can share her joys and heartaches as the dream became reality and took a firm hold.
Many of the important artifacts and special treasures collected over the past century, as well as a wealth of historic photographs and archival material will also be revealed.
The documentary 100 Years of Nevada History: The Story of the Nevada Historical Society was created by producer Gwen Clancy as part of the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs’ Exploring Nevada series.
