May 22 program will be at Garden Shop Nursery in Reno

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension natural resource specialist Ed Smith will present a free workshop on how homeowners can reduce the risk to their homes from wildfire.

The workshop will be from 10:30—11:30 a.m. May 22 at the Garden Shop Nursery at 3636 Mayberry Drive in Reno.

Smith will recommend ways to create defensible space and make good plant choices for your property.  “The homeowner is the most important person in preventing a house from being destroyed by wildfire” says Smith. “It’s the actions they take to prepare their home and property before a wildfire occurs that make the difference.”

Smith will also be a guest on the call-in radio program, “The Impatient Gardener,” on Fox News 1270AM from 8–9 a.m. May 22. Callers can talk one-on-one with Smith by dialing 823-1920 during the program.

For more information about how to reduce the wildfire threat to your home, visit www.livingwithfire.info or call 775-856-8403 and ask for a free brochure. Living With Fire is an interagency program coordinated by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
