SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, a leading healthcare system in northern Nevada, proves that quality is what matters most, as they continue to lead northern Nevada hospitals in quality rankings.  In its latest publicly reported data, HealthInsight has ranked Saint Mary’s as the top hospital in northern Nevada for performance in 25 quality measurements established by the federal government.  Since 2006, Saint Mary’s has consistently ranked first in the region while improving overall performance each quarter, something no other hospital in the region can claim.  Saint Mary’s is also the only hospital in Reno that is fully accredited, without conditions per the Joint Commission for Hospital Accreditation.

“To receive this ranking is a reflection of the dedication of our employees and physicians to providing our patients with the region’s highest quality of care,” said Mike Uboldi, Saint Mary’s president and CEO. “Saint Mary’s has consistently been ranked number one in northern Nevada by HealthInsight, but what I am even more impressed by is how we have continued to increase our level of quality and currently we rank 59 percentile points higher than our largest competitor.”

HealthInsight is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of patient care at hospitals in Nevada and Utah.  The measurements from HealthInsight’s reporting have been established by the federal government’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and are designed to assess individual hospitals’ performance in the treatment of heart attacks, heart failure, pneumonia and in the prevention of surgical infections.

Saint Mary’s ranking is in the 76th percentile of all 4,200 hospitals nationwide, which is based on specific criteria such as consistent timing and administration of medications, detailed patient assessment and prevention measures, all designed to help patients recover faster, stay healthier and go home quicker.

“Over the past three years, Saint Mary’s has consistently improved its rankings each quarter, proving again the dedication our hospital has to its patients and community,” said Dan Ferguson, MD, Saint Mary’s chief medical officer.  “We are proud of the many physicians and employees that contribute to our exceptional patient care.”

In Nevada, Saint Mary’s has ranked first in northern Nevada and third amongst all state hospitals, only behind St. Rose Dominican Hospital – de lima campus, also owned by Catholic Healthcare West, the parent company of Saint Mary’s, and Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite, Nev.   The HealthInsight ranking is computed using voluntarily-reported, public data from the CMS Hospital Compare website www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov.
