Steve Mischissin has been named associate vice president for facilities services for the University of Nevada, Reno.

Before joining the University in 2005, Mischissin was with Winzler & Kelly Consulting Engineers in San Francisco, where his clients included Stanford University, UC Davis, UC Berkeley and UC Santa Barbara. He also previously served as associate director of facilities operations for Stanford University, assistant director of engineering for Dartmouth College and director of facilities at Williams College in Massachusetts.

Mischissin received his degree in mechanical engineering from Rutgers University and is a licensed professional engineer in five states including Nevada. He is a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) accredited professional, and his professional affiliations include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, United States Green Building Council and the Society for College and University Planning.

“This is a very key position for the University,” said Ron Zurek, vice president for finance and administration. “The associate vice president for facilities services has a wide range of responsibilities that also carry critical budgetary, regulatory and safety implications.”

Mischissin joined the University as assistant director for planning and design, and has served as interim associate vice president for the past 15 months. He has been an integral member of the design and construction teams for the University’s Joe Crowley Student Union, Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, Davidson Mathematics and Science Center, Sierra Hall and other renovation and building assessment projects. The Facilities Services Department includes facilities operations, maintenance, planning and design, construction, facilities finance, parking and transportation and real estate.

“Steve has been integral to the planning and completion of many successful University construction projects, and we will continue to be well served by his impressive experience in the fields of engineering, facilities engineering, design and construction,” said Zurek.
