Remaining student, alumni and community activities for Nevada Homecoming 2009

Nevada Alumni Association and the Associated Students of the University of Nevada continue to celebrate Homecoming 2009 with a variety of student, alumni and community activities. This year’s Dr. Seuss-themed Homecoming is, “Blue Pack, Silver Pack, Our Pack, Wolf Pack.” At the Homecoming Gala on Thursday, Oct. 22 in the Joe Crowley Student Union Ballroom, more than two dozen distinguished friends and alumni will be honored, including Alumnus of the Year Jeff Ceccarelli, ’76 (civil engineering). Remaining events for Homecoming Week 2009 include:

Pack Gives Back Charity Auction and Fashion Show – Wednesday, Oct. 21
Joe Crowley Student Union Ballroom, 7 to 10 p.m.

Proceeds from the “Pack Gives Back” Charity Auction and Fashion Show go to the Marvin Piccolo School for special needs children. Students, staff and faculty members from Jesse Hall, Spanish Springs and Caughlin Ranch Elementary Schools have helped raise money and collect books during a community book drive. Money and books will help initiate a library for Marvin Piccolo School.
Homecoming King and Queen candidates design their own Dr. Seuss outfits to be worn to the Fashion Show. The King and Queen nominees will also be judged by a panel based on the creativity, originality and overall appeal of their costumes and are encouraged to get into character.

2009 Homecoming Gala – Thursday, Oct. 22
Joe Crowley Student Union Ballroom, 6 p.m. no-host reception, 7 p.m. dinner and program

The Nevada Alumni Association will recognize some of the best and brightest Nevada alumni during the 2009 Homecoming Gala. Tickets and tables are available for purchase by calling 775-784-6620 or 888-NV-ALUMS. For a complete list of award winners, please visit the Homecoming Gala page.

Wear Blue Day – Friday, Oct. 23
Community members are encouraged to wear blue in support of the Pack. Send your “true blue” pictures to [email protected].

FREE Blue Flu Barbeque and Howling Competition – Friday, Oct. 23
Joe Crowley Student Union Gateway Plaza, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Friends and alumni are invited to a FREE barbecue on the University campus. The Blue Flu barbeque is to encourage students, alumni and community members to take a break from school and work to find a cure for their Nevada “Blue Flu” at the barbeque. The only cure for this flu is to celebrate Homecoming with fellow Nevada fans.

Reynolds School Homecoming Lunch – Friday, Oct. 23
Scripps Plaza, Reynolds School Atrium, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

At 12:30 p.m., the First Amendment banner will be unveiled. Call 775-784-6531 for more information or if you’d like to sponsor a student.

“If I Ran the Circus,” Family Pep Rally & Bonfire – Friday, Oct. 23
Parking Lot North of Peccole Park (baseball field), 6 p.m.

During this family-friendly event, watch flame throwers, play carnival games, get your face painted, play in bounce houses, listen to live music, and eat free food from Men Wielding Fire. The Homecoming Bonfire will take place on campus north of Peccole Park.

Old Guys’ Night, sponsored by the Young Alumni Chapter – Friday, Oct. 23
Little Waldorf Saloon, 9 p.m.

The perfect venue to relive the good old days, whether they were last spring or many springs ago. For Nevada fans over 21 years old.

Wolf Trot 5K Fun Run – Saturday, Oct. 24
Lombardi Recreation Center, 7:30 a.m. check in, 8 a.m. race

This annual 5k takes you all over campus. Please contact Campus Recreation at 775-682-7173 for more information.

“And to Think that I Saw It on Virginia Street….,” Homecoming Parade – Saturday, Oct. 24
Ninth and Virginia Street to 15th and Virginia Street, 9:30 a.m.

Head down to the Joe Crowley Student Union to watch the Homecoming parade and take part in an all new event – a free Homecoming breakfast. Local celebrities, community leaders and community organizations will be present.

“Blue Eggs and Hams,” Homecoming Breakfast – Saturday, Oct. 24
Joe Crowley Student Union Gateway Plaza, 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Drive down Virginia Street from McCarran or enter the University from Evans Avenue to avoid the parade route.

Homecoming Pre-game Party, Saturday, Oct. 24
Wolf Pack Alley (north of Mackay Stadium), two hours before kickoff

The Pre-Game party is sponsored by Sierra Pacific Federal Credit Union, GEICO and Buckbean Brewing Company.

“The BIG GAME,” Nevada vs. Idaho – Saturday, Oct. 24
Mackay Stadium, 1:05 p.m.

One thousand additional student tickets will be available at the Student Entrance Gate #9 two hours before kickoff.
