The Nevada Day Parade marched through downtown Carson City on Saturday for another installation of the time-honored Silver State tradition. The hot air balloon launch returned this year, as did many community groups, marching bands and area pageant queens and princesses. There were 200 entries in the half-day parade.
This year’s theme was the state motto, “All For Our Country,” which references the nation and conveys a sense of unity. Parade organizers earlier this year decided to keep political campaigning out of this year’s celebration, which comes a little more than a week before a tense general election season.
Carson Now reported earlier this year that tensions have increased annually along the parade route due to politics, with numerous fist fights and profanity-laden arguments creating safety issues. Republican and Democratic party officials were invited to share a presence on a “unity” float, but Republicans declined.
