Washoe County School District Police officers, for the second time this month, have arrested a local youth for terror threats made against local schools. A 13-year-old student on Tuesday, Sept. 17, was arrested and charged with one felony count of “Making Threats or Conveying False Information Concerning Acts of Terrorism.”
WCSD police last week began an investigation into an image of weapons and a threat posted to social media sites Instagram and Snapchat. Multiple WCSD schools were tagged in the posts, in which the student is alleged to have threatened to carry out school shootings or other violence.
Officials said the social media posts were shared repeatedly, stoking fears within the community. However, WCSD PD said there are no ongoing threats to the schools listed in the post or on future dates listed.
This week’s incident is separate from one reported earlier this month. A 12-year-old student was arrested Sept. 8 also for posting threats on social media networks against several area schools. That student was charged with two felony counts for violating the same law.
Neither suspect is being named due to being a juvenile.
