Many of Reno’s favorite lunch and dinner spots, including Granite Street Eatery on Sierra Street, are open for brunch only on the weekends. Long a favorite for intimate dinners and pre-theater meals, Granite Street opens at 10 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and serves a breakfast menu until 2 p.m. (which also means that if you want lunch on the weekends, you’ll have to wait until later in the day to dine in).

The gastropub’s brunch menu is heavy on breakfast classics, including scrambles, omelets and Eggs Benedict. It also features a few more modern mainstays, including chicken and waffles, featuring a golden-brown Belgian waffle, juicy fried chicken, fried spinach and bell peppers. The combination of sweet and savory is all presented on one delicious plate.

You can get the same satisfying, complementary flavors by ordering a stack of decadent chocolate chip pancakes alongside a side of crispy bacon. The omelets include the traditional Denver (with ham, bell peppers and onion) and California (with pepper jack cheese, bacon, avocado, tomato and black olives). There’s also an All-American, made with melty cheddar cheese, onions and bacon. Each omelet is made with three eggs and comes with a side of your choosing.

Personally, we’re upgrading the breakfast potatoes with garlic parmesan for extra flavor. Instead of petite squares, the presentation is more akin to a wedge fry with slivers of parmesan cheese and a hint of garlic seasoning to finish them out. If you feel like being healthy, you can also substitute fresh fruit (or grits).

Avocado toast is another classic menu item done well here. Funnily enough, the avocado doesn’t take center stage. While thin slices of avocado are sliced over thick sourdough bread, fresh tomatoes and pickled red onions offer a lot of flavor atop a bed of arugula lettuce. It’s then finished with feta cheese and a balsamic reduction for a powerful combination of flavors.

Don’t forget to check out the Eggs Sardou, a southern favorite made with creamed spinach, jumbo shrimp, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce served on an English muffin or the short list of sandwiches and burritos.

Anyone who dines at Granite Street has likely learned that cocktails here are a main attraction. Brunch is no exception. The specialty menu includes its line-up of “breakfast libations,” including a Cinnamon Toast Crunch shot, which is sweet but compliments early morning parties well, and a Breakfast Chocolate Fashion for those who want a spirit-forward cocktail early in the day.

Of course, a mimosa is customary and you can choose between a classic or passion fruit variety.
