Washoe County Manager John Slaughter today announced his retirement from public service.
He’s served the Washoe County community for more than 30 years.
“This decision comes only after much thought and discussions with my family,” he said in a prepared announcement. “I have come to recognize that time spent with family is not indefinite and after more than 32 years with this great organization, I look forward to devoting time to family and friends.”
Slaughter started with the county in 1986 as a land-use planner. He was appointed county manager in 2013.
His last day with the county is June 14, 2019.
“The past five years as county manager have been the most professionally demanding, yet personally gratifying of my tenure with the county,” he added.
