Since last October, Nevada law enforcement officers have been educating motorists about two new laws that will impact traffic in school zones. Now, officers will be issuing misdemeanor citations to motorists who violate the laws.
The first law dictates that drivers are not allowed to make a U-turn in active school zones. The second prohibits drivers from passing other vehicles in active school zones.
School zones are “active” at different times during each weekday, as the start and dismissal times differ for each school in each district. However, there are signs and/or flashing lights that indicate when a zone is active and when children are present.
School zones are not active on weekends, or during school breaks or holidays.
