The Reno Fire Department encourages residents to be safe while celebrating during the holiday season.
“It’s important that citizens know these tips so that their holidays are safe and enjoyable,” Reno Fire Chief Dave Cochran said. “The colder months and holiday season bring a set of fire risks that can spoil the festive atmosphere rather quickly.”
Here are some tips to help everyone in the community enjoy a safe holiday season:
- Avoid putting a Christmas tree near any open flames, like candles or fireplaces, as they are incredibly flammable.
Make sure your heating equipment is in a suitable condition before the winter season officially sets in, so as to avoid causing a fire.
- Having friends and family over for the holidays can cause a greater risk of causing a fire, especially if alcohol is involved. Be cautious and celebrate responsibly.
- Reduce speeds on slick roads to avoid hazards.
