The Reno City Council has approved a $100,000 grant to aid Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada and St. Vincent’s for its “Motels to Homes” program, permanently relocating at least 32 local families living in weekly motels.
“Hundreds of families currently reside in weekly motels, and often times, there are small barriers keeping them from moving into apartments or homes,” said Catholic Charities CEO Peter Vogel. “For families that are living paycheck to paycheck, paying a rental deposit on apartment can be a major challenge.
“This program is not meant to be a quick fix for families facing tough times. This is about helping local families with the desire to change their life situation to be successful in doing that,” he added.
Families wishing to participate in the “Motels to Homes” program can contact Hettie Ploeger with the St. Vincent’s Resource Network at (775)322-7073 extension 350, or visit their offices at 500 East Fourth Street in downtown Reno.
