Fifty-five fugitives are off the streets of Nevada as a result of a nationwide six week U.S. Marshals-led enforcement initiative to reduce violent crime.
Twenty-four of the 55 are considered the “worst of the worst.”
The sweep included fugitives wanted for murder, attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault, arson, kidnapping, sexual assault and child molestation. Conducted between March 2 and April 10, the operation resulted in more than 7,100 arrests around the country.
“(The operation) was not about increasing arrest numbers, but rather an effort to further protect communities by targeting the most dangerous felony fugitives,” said U.S. Marshals Service Director Stacia Hylton. “The approach was quality versus quantity and was strengthened by working with community leaders and local law enforcement to get the worst of the worst fugitives off the street.”
The local U.S. Marshals led Fugitive Task Force is comprised of law enforcement investigators from the United States Marshals Service, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Department of Public Safety and the Sparks Police Department.
