CITY OF RENO NEWS RELEASE

We love our special eventsWith the special event season arriving, the Reno City Council is having some fun posing in a new photo, promoting the unique events that the Biggest Little City in the World has to offer.

“We are looking forward to a great special event season that will fill Reno with residents and visitors enjoying our beautiful city and all we have to offer,” advises Alexis Hill, city of Reno special events program manager.

The city of Reno has dedicated a total of $350,000 of in-kind sponsorship of city services to special events for fiscal year 2012-2013 and fiscal year 2013-2014. The city is also the title sponsor for Artown (a $140,000 sponsorship). Additionally, the City Council has approved dedicating $16,000 for an economic impact study for special events held in 2013.

On March 13, the City Council approved forming a new Special Events Regional Task Force. The task force brings together our community’s special event promoters and regional jurisdictional entities to discuss special events sponsorship policies, best practices related to special events and other special events permitting policies.

The task force is an example of the region’s dedication to economic development. It currently consists of representatives from the city of Reno, city of Sparks, Washoe County and the Reno Sparks Visitors Authority (RSCVA) along with numerous special event promoters. The first task force meeting will be held on June 11 in the Reno City Council Chambers.

The city of Reno strives to enhance the quality of life for our community by promoting a sustainable and vibrant economy. Supporting and helping grow special events in the community is just one example. For more information about Reno’s special events visit Reno.gov/Events.
