SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE

At 11:10 a.m. this morning, Reno firefighters responded to a structure fire at 468 Smithridge Drive.

A Fed Ex driver passing by noticed smoke coming from the roof of the townhouse, immediately called 9-1-1, then quickly notified the occupant of the residence, and had her safely evacuate.

The fire started in the upstairs bathroom, spread into the attic, and burned through the roof. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one unit, keeping it from spreading and causing further damage.

The Reno Fire Department Chaplain and the American Red Cross are assisting with finding alternative living arrangements for the woman and her six year old child that were living in the townhome. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.

Responding to the structure fire were three structure engines, two ladder trucks, one safety officer, one air support unit, one fire investigator, and one battalion chief. The Reno Police Department assisted with traffic control.
