SUBMITTED RELEASE FROM RORY 2010
In a joint appearance on the TV program “Nevada Newsmakers” yesterday, Republican Brian Sandoval presented a dismal, backward strategy that would leave thousands of struggling Nevadans behind. Rory Reid demonstrated once again that he is the one candidate for governor with the experience and detailed plans to move our state in a new direction.
Sandoval, who for months has failed to deliver on his promise to present a plan to balance Nevada’s budget, talked about rolling the state budget back in time: to 2007. His rationale? The state population has declined slightly.
Experts reacted less than enthusiastically. Jeremy Aguero, principal of the respected economics research firm Applied Analysis, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the recession has created more demand for services like education and unemployment insurance, not less.
He also commented that many costs have increased due to market forces. “The cost of energy you can’t roll back to 2007, you can’t roll back the cost of health care to 2007,” Aguero said.
In contrast, Reid’s plan for the state budget offers innovative strategies to reform state government and balances the budget without raising taxes or cutting education.
Reid has presented six detailed plans for Nevada’s future, aimed at diversifying the economy, creating jobs, strengthening K-12 education, making our higher education system an economic engine, bringing transparency to state government and making Nevada the nation’s first energy-independent state.
“Brian Sandoval wants to do his Michael J. Fox impression, fire up the flux capacitor and jump in the DeLorean to take Nevada back in time,” said Reid. “That’s not only unrealistic, it would leave thousands of Nevadans who are unemployed or struggling to stay in their homes behind.”
Rory Reid is the only candidate for governor to offer solutions for today and a plan for Nevada’s future success – supporting strong schools for a stronger economy. For more information about his campaign or to download his plans, visit RoryReid.com.
