SPARKS Rail City Garden Center in Sparks and the Nevada Department of Agriculture have joined forces to offer a free collection and disposal day for old or unwanted weed killers, insecticides and rodent baits on Sat., Oct. 16th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

When summer activities wind down and fall begins, it’s a perfect time to straighten up garages, storage and garden sheds.  It’s also the time old pest control chemicals are found and people don’t know what to do with them.

“Illegal dumping or improper disposal of unwanted pesticides can contaminate rivers, streams and groundwater,” said Rail City Garden Center owner Pawl Hollis. “And ultimately both aquatic life and humans can suffer.”

Hollis says bringing the chemicals to Rail City Garden Center at 1720 Brierley Way for proper disposal is “the green thing to do – and it’s free!”

Pesticides only will be collected for disposal at the event.  Fertilizer, paint, oil, antifreeze or other items will not be accepted.  For more detailed information call Rail City Garden Center at 775-355-1551.
