University students compete with in-state rival for most blood donations

Date:

The University of Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack football team may be challenging the UNLV Rebels on the football field in Las Vegas this year, but that doesn’t mean Reno is without action. Reno’s Associated Students of the University of Nevada is planning a friendly blood drive competition with the students and alumni at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to benefit the United Blood Services. The drive will begin on Monday, Sept. 27 and run until Oct. 1, the day before the big rivalry football game.

“Every season, Pack fans look forward to the big game against UNLV,” Molly Fronapfel, ASUN director of traditions said. “Since the game is away this year, we needed to do something at home to show our support for our team, our University and our community. Giving blood helps so many people and it only takes about 20 minutes.”

The United Blood Services will be providing two donation buses at the University of Nevada, Reno, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sept. 27 through Oct. 1. There will be a bus located in the metered parking lot in front of the Joe Crowley Student Union, as well as in the metered parking lot in front of Nye Hall off of North Sierra Street. Anyone in the community who is eligible to donate blood is encouraged to do so to aid in a donation victory over UNLV. The total number of blood donations will be tallied on Oct. 1 and announced on the official ASUN Facebook page the following week.
