SUBMITTED NEWS RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C.–Sen. Harry Reid today made the following statement in support of Peace Officers Memorial Day:
“I join our community in paying tribute to the law enforcement officers who gave their lives to serve and protect the people of Nevada. As a former police officer, I know how important it is to have the support of the community, family and friends, and I offer my condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the line of duty. These fallen officers will always be remembered as true heroes, having given their lives while combating crime and terrorism to ensure peace and safety in our communities.”
Observed in conjunction with Police Week (May 9-15), Peace Officers Memorial Day services are held annually on May 15th in communities across the nation to honor the local, state and federal peace officers who have died or become disabled in the line of duty. In tribute to the fallen officers, the American flag will be lowered to half-staff and ceremonies will take place throughout Nevada.
