WASHINGTON, DC–Today Sen. Harry Reid visited the FIRST Robotics Regional Competition at the Washington Convention Center. Accompanied by Founder Dean Kamen, Reid observed a variety of robotics competitions and interacted first-hand with the robot developed by the Eureka County High School team, The Vandals. The team members from Nevada included Ari Lohnes, Kevin Podborny, Kevin Martinson, Kathryn Starr, Damian Branting, Lilly Coryell, Joey Garcia and Coaches James Izzolo and Kathy Leavitt.
“The FIRST organization has provided a great forum for these students to utilize their talents and showcase their inventions to the world,” said Reid. “Today’s demonstrations have served as proof of the results that quality education can produce. Much more, it is an affirmation of the possibilities we can create when we adequately fund education, research and development in the areas of mathematics, science and engineering. With the right investments, our country will rank higher among a world of competitors in this technological age.”
