SUBMITTED RELEASE

By Orrin Johnson, Republican Candidate For Nevada State Assembly 25

Sunday night in the U.S. House of Representatives, Democrats handed my daughter–and all of our children and grandchildren–a bill too big to ever be paid, for services which will be below our current standards of care, and justified by budgeting gimmicks which would make Bernie Madoff blush. In spite of claims to the contrary, even the New York Times was forced to admit, “if you strip out all the gimmicks and budgetary games and rework the calculus, a wholly different picture emerges: The health care reform legislation would raise, not lower, federal deficits, by $562 billion.”

Here in Nevada, the picture is no prettier. In 2009, Nevada lawmakers increased government spending by $50 million dollars, while private businesses and families were forced to tighten their belts. Our tax burden increased by 19.1 percent. And now, after years of shortsighted profligate spending, we face an estimated $3 billion shortfall in 2011’s budget. Our public employee pension program has an unfunded liability of $9.1 billion (and growing).

Our state and our country are in very real danger–we cannot afford our current course. It’s not too late to turn things around, but we must act now. We need to elect serious, principled and fearless conservatives to all levels of government, and that includes our State Assembly in District 25.

I spent six years wearing the uniform of my country, sailing into harm’s way because I believed that it was my responsibility to fight for my way of life. But right here at home, that way of life is threatened by fiscal irresponsibility, and the fight for liberty has never felt more vital or more critical.

It won’t be easy, but we cannot afford to fail. I will fight for you and for all of our children, but I need your help to do it. This Saturday, come help us get the word out by joining me and many other concerned Nevadans in contacting every voter in this district (let me know you’re coming at orrin at orrinjohnson.com, so I know how many pancakes to get ready!).
