Reno artist Lynda Yuroff, whose work is part of permanent collections at the Nevada Museum of Art, Bank of America, Reno and the John Deere Corporation, Reno, donated an original piece of artwork to the “Wine & Spirits” fundraiser for Horses for the Spirit.
The piece, valued at $500, is collaged canvas with sage wood, oil, acrylic and wax on wood panel and will be raffled during the event on November 5, 2009 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Art Source Gallery.
“I most of all want to raise money for Horses for the Spirit,” says Yuroff. “I think it is a great organization doing really good things for kids.”
Horses for the Spirit, founded in 2005, is a 501(c)3 public charity offering Equine Assisted Learning programs to Washoe County youth, primarily those at risk of failing in traditional settings. The programs utilize horses as part of the teaching team to help kids learn positive life and social skills. Clients include the McGee Center, Social Services and Children’s Cabinet, among others.
The “Wine & Spirits” fundraiser event is on November 5, 2009 from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at Art Source Gallery, 9748 S. Virginia St., Unit E. Wine tasting is being provided by Whispering Vine and hors d’oeurves will be served. Tickets are $40 per person or $75 per couple.

Yuroff, who has been a Reno resident since the late 1970s, has worked in artist in residence programs for the Nevada Arts Council, Sierra Arts and Very Special Arts, Nevada. She has also taught art classes at Truckee Meadows Community College and Mountain View Montessori School. Her paintings have been featured in many group and solo exhibitions throughout the state and region. In 2003 and again in 2009, Yuroff was commissioned by the Nevada Arts Council to create original artwork to be presented to recipients of the Governor’s Awards.
