NCOT news release
A Nevada Commission on Tourism sales team will launch an autumn sales “blitz” Aug. 17 to stimulate travel from Chicago, Denver and Dallas, major markets that offer convenient air service to Nevada, Lt. Gov. Brian K. Krolicki announced today.
“Our sales team will promote easy air access from those cities, exclusive travel deals and new attractions in meetings with key tour operators and other influential travel industry contacts that bring business to Nevada,” Krolicki, NCOT chair, said. “Convenient air service generates revenue for the entire state because it encourages fly-drive travelers, who catch a flight to Las Vegas, Reno-Lake Tahoe or Ely, then jump in a car to go see historic mining towns, parks and other rural attractions.”
The week-long sales blitz aimed at autumn travelers will take three NCOT sales staff members to Chicago, Dallas and Denver. All three cities provide easy access to Nevada’s major airports in Reno and Las Vegas. Denver offers air service to Ely, which benefits the eastern side of the state by reducing travel time for fly-drive visitors.
“Tourism is a highly competitive industry globally, and NCOT works proactively in the marketplace to produce new business for both urban and rural Nevada,” NCOT Director Dann Lewis said. “There is no better way to sell Nevada as a desirable destination than to develop business relationships, deliver information in person and convey enthusiasm for our product.”
Fly-drive travelers to Reno can ski at Lake Tahoe and enjoy festivals in Sparks, lock their love in Lovelock and visit historic sites in Carson City, Fallon, Carson Valley and the entire region. Ely is a hub for visits to scenic Great Basin National Park and several state parks. Las Vegas arrivals can easily drive to spectacular sights such as Death Valley National Park, Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire State Park and Red Rock Canyon.
Accompanying the NCOT sales staff to Dallas and Denver will be industry sales partners representing the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority and Pony Express Territory. Staff will join Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority representatives to promote Nevada tours at a Funjet Vacations event in Chicago.
The sales team will promote attractions throughout the state with a focus on golf, skiing and “what’s new,” such as the M Resort, Spa and Casino in Las Vegas, the Legends at Sparks Marina shopping and entertainment center, a Marriott hotel under construction in Elko and the long-awaited Virginia & Truckee Railway tourist train running between Virginia City and Carson City.
NCOT is the only agency that promotes travel to all of Nevada. Its staff conducts sales missions to increase travel from various strategic markets in all seasons and is planning an East Coast blitz later in the year.
