Sandoval appoints Scott Freeman to 2nd Judicial District Court vacancy

CARSON CITY — Governor Brian Sandoval announced today he has appointed Scott N. Freeman to the 2nd Judicial District Court vacancy.

“I am proud to appoint Scott to the bench,” Governor Brian Sandoval said.  “Scott’s extensive criminal and civil trial experience, as well as his community service will serve him well in this next phase of his legal career.  I am confident he will be a fine judge and will be an excellent addition to the Washoe County bench.”

Currently an attorney with the law offices of Freeman & Riggs, L.L.P. focusing on criminal law, Freeman is a graduate of Ithaca College and the Southwestern Law School.  A member of the Moot Court Honors Program at Southwestern Law School, Freeman was admitted to the Nevada bar in 1984. Appointed by the Nevada State Bar as a Fee Dispute Arbitrator in 1990, Freeman is currently an Arbitrator for the State Bar Disciplinary Committee.  Freeman serves as a Pro Tem Judge in Reno Municipal Court and has served as a Pro Tem Family Court Master in Washoe District Court.  In 1987, Freeman was recognized by the Washoe District Court for his pro bono work and in 1999, he was awarded the Access to Justice Pro Bono Attorney of the Year.  He has served as a member of the Nevada Law Foundation Board of Trustees and is a member of the American Board of Criminal Lawyers.  In 2008, he was selected as Defender of the Year by the Nevada Attorneys For Criminal Justice.

Freeman has been a guest lecturer at the University of Nevada in criminal justice courses as well as lecturing at Galena High School and Truckee Meadows Community College.  In 2012, Freeman was honored as the Mountain States Super Lawyer, Criminal Defense and from 2007 to 2010, Freeman was listed as one of the American Trial Lawyers Association Top 100 Trial Lawyers.
