The Women and Children’s Center of the Sierra (WACCS) is once again hosting its adopt-a-family holiday program; this time, 175 families need help.
“This year, we have 175 local families signed up in need of assistance,” said Co-Executive Director Junella Zuniga. “These families represent our clients. We are working closely with each of them to help them get back on their feet. Paying for holiday gifts for their children can feel unattainable while they’re busy working or tending to basic family needs.”
The WACCS holiday family adoption program has the lowest barrier of entry in the community—it does not mandate proof of income, as the organization recognizes the diverse circumstances within each family. They do, however, request proof of guardianship.
Donors can participate in one of three ways:
- By calling the center at 775-825-7395, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- By emailing [email protected] with contact information and preferred family size or budget.
The deadline for dropping off gifts is Monday, Dec. 16, by 6 p.m. at the WACCS office. Staff members are asking donors to wrap gifts and include a label on the outside indicating for whom the gift is intended. If you don’t have time to shop, WACCS is also accepting monetary donations via the WACCS website or the WACCS Amazon Wish List.
