A man was shot by Reno police Thursday morning after an hours-long standoff at the shuttered Lakemill Lodge in downtown Reno. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center with unknown injuries. No officers were injured in the incident.
Police say they initially responded around 6:30 a.m. to reports of a man with a gun in the 200 block of Mill Street. Upon arrival, officers found the armed man who then barricaded himself inside the vacant Lakemill Lodge building, prompting a tactical response.
According to reporting by KTVN, the Reno Police Department’s SWAT team was called in as the situation escalated. According to police, an altercation occurred around 10 a.m., during which the man was shot by officers. Details about the exact nature of the confrontation that led to the shooting have not been released.
Lakemill Lodge was closed Wednesday and residents of the weekly motel were evacuated after a multi-agency inspection found human waste and the presence of fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine in the main stairwell. The stairs are the main access point to many of the rooms.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation under the Regional Officer-Involved Shooting Protocol, with support from the Sparks Police Department. Officials confirmed that there are no outstanding suspects, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
