More than 40 writers will appear at the Downtown Reno Library on Saturday, November 9.

A bestselling novelist and songwriter, a pediatrician who writes nonfiction about climate change, poets, journalists, artists, and other authors who write about nature, travel, horses, vampires, and wanting to dress like a Christmas elf — what do all these people have in common?

They’re all among the writers who will appear at Washoe County Library’s 2024 Local Author Fest on Saturday, November 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Downtown Reno Library will host the festival celebrating the works of more than 40 writers with ties to Northern Nevada.

Headliner Willy Vlautin is a Reno native, a New York Times bestselling author, and an acclaimed songwriter with the bands Richmond Fontaine and the Delines. Several of his works have been adapted into films, including the novel “The Motel Life,” which was adapted into a 2012 film starring Emile Hirsch, Stephen Dorff, and Dakota Fanning. He will discuss his publishing journey and his newest book, “The Horse.” Seating for this portion of the event is limited. Tickets will be available at the Downtown Reno Library on a first-come-first-served basis, on the day of the event.

Local writers attending the event include Debra Hendrickson, a local pediatrician and the author of “The Air They Breathe: A Pediatrician on the Front Lines of Climate Change;” Naseem Jamnia, author of the fantasy novella “The Bruising of Qilwa;” and Terri Farley, author of the “Phantom Stallion” series for young readers. Other participating local authors include Alicia Barber, Jill Derby, Bill Brown, and many more.

The authors will read from their works on three different stages throughout the library. And they’ll be available to sell and sign their books. Registration recommended. This is a special event held on a day of the week that the Downtown Reno Library is usually closed, and the library will not be open for regular library services.

Many of the authors are available for interviews. For media inquiries, please contact Brad Bynum at [email protected].
