Learn how Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) produces clean water and clean energy by touring TMWA’s water treatment and hydroelectric plants. All tours are free and require only a reservation to attend.
The Verdi Hydroelectric Power Plant tour welcomes attendees to a facility that has been producing clean, renewable energy for over 100 years. The Verdi hydro plant is one of three on the Truckee River which offsets TMWA’s power costs and keeps rates low for TMWA customers.
The Verdi hydro plant was inducted into the Hydro Hall of Fame in 2023 for its long service life and reliable production of electricity. Tours will take place on Aug. 28 at 10 a.m., Sept. 7 at 10 a.m., Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. and Sept. 18 at 2 p.m.
Attendees of the Chalk Bluff Water Treatment Plant tour will meet TMWA’s team of highly skilled engineers, scientists and operators; find out how the team works to provide our community with high-quality drinking water; and see what it takes to get water from the Truckee River to your tap. Visitors will also learn about the 1,000+ tests conducted every month to ensure TMWA’s water is of the highest possible quality.
The Chalk Bluff Plant has been recognized with the “Presidents Award” from the Partnership for Safe Water. With this recognition, the plant ranks among the highest-performing water-treatment facilities in the nation. Sign up for any of the following Chalk Bluff tours: Sept. 3 at 3 p.m., Sept. 10 at 1 p.m., Sept. 17 at 10 a.m., Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. and Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. Please note: These are lengthy walking tours and will involve climbing a significant number of stairs and walking on even surfaces.
