Meeting set for Thursday, July 11 at McKinley Arts Center

The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County is gearing up for its second public meeting on the Keystone Avenue Bridge replacement project. RTC officials are inviting community members to provide input on proposed changes to the bridge.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 11, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center. A presentation will be given at 5:30 p.m. Josh MacEachern, RTC’s public information officer, said RTC is proposing three changes based on public feedback.

“We received some great input from the community at the first … meeting back in December,” he said.

Based on citizen feedback, McEachern said RTC is proposing to expand the bridge to lanes with a multi-use path on the north end of the bridge. RTC is also considering adding a ramp connection from California Avenue to the new bridge multi-use path and a protected bike lane on Booth Street.

“We’re hoping to get public feedback on these proposed alternatives, in addition we are beginning to gather public feedback on potential aesthetic improvements including lighting, improved signage, and historical markers,” he added.

The meeting will provide information on existing bridge conditions and the project’s progress and timeline. Participants will have the opportunity to offer input. For those unable to attend in person, presentation materials are available virtually through Aug. 14 at keystonebridgeproject.com.
