One of the highest-profile vacant pieces of property in Reno is planned for office and retail development. Located at the busy corner of South McCarran Boulevard and South Virginia Street, the project known as SkyPointe Reno is projected to include offices, stores and restaurants and bars.
At least 200,000 square feet of space will be constructed.
The exact mix of uses and the space to be devoted to each of them still is under study, says Todd McKenzie, a principal in Reno-based McKenzie Properties, the developer of SkyPointe.
Even though plans haven’t been nailed down, McKenzie says the project will include multiple buildings on the 5.5-acre site. No leases have been signed yet for any of the space.
“Everything about this is going to be cool — the design, the tenant mix, the location,” says McKenzie. “It will be an experiential destination as well as a place for work and play.”
He expects the project will begin opening in 2021.
Even though its high-profile location sits adjacent to Meadowood Mall, the site of SkyPointe Reno never has been developed.
That began to change, however, with the construction of a 95-room Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel on a corner of the vacant property last year.
