Battle Born Dollz hosted their 4th annual charity ball, The Gatsby Gala, on Saturday evening at the VFW Battle Born Post 9211 in Reno. In addition to food, drink and dancing, the Gala featured performances by impersonators and comedians. A silent auction and several raffles were also held. Proceeds from the event went to Honor Flight Nevada.
Founded four years ago, Battle Born Dollz is a women’s social club that focuses on charitable work in the greater Reno area. Several members are vets or children of vets, and many of the Dollz’s volunteer efforts address women’s health and veteran’s issues.
Most Dollz also share a love of Rockabilly culture, and many take a stage name suitable for that time. Betty Jo chose her name to honor her grandmother, a Navy vet who died of ovarian cancer. Embracing her daughter, Betty Jo described the Dollz as a giant sisterhood and noted that they are now welcoming Darlings, or teenage girls, into the club.
