The Reno Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit had the opportunity yesterday to practice tactics in a high-rise environment thanks to the Renaissance Hotel opening then entire 9th floor and roof for their use.

While the training was part of their normal training regimen, the shooting at the Montage in 2017, and the shooting in Las Vegas at the Harvest Festival, serve as examples of the value of training for this specific environment.

The SWAT unit started their exercise from the roof, as to not interfere with guests at the hotel, and preceded down a flight of stairs into a corridor and began clearing a room.

Lt. Scott Shaw, who chaperoned the media during the event, thanked the Renaissance Hotel multiple times for making an entire floor of the hotel available for SWAT to train.
