PRESS RELEASE

The Ronald McDonald House of Northern Nevada is asking for the community’s help identifying an individual who stole a donation canister at the McDonald’s restaurant at 140 West First Avenue in Sun Valley.

The incident occurred at 2:20 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, when a countertop canister with an estimated $400 in donations and its accompanying card reader, valued at $800, were stolen.

“We recognize times are tough for many in our community, but we genuinely hope the perpetrator does the right thing and returns the canister and the dollars,” said Brock Marquez, executive director for the nonprofit. “A donation of $400 is enough to help a family for more than a month.”

The charity is a local nonprofit that supports families of children who are receiving treatment at area hospitals but who live more than 30 miles away. The charity asks guests to consider a nightly donation of $10 but does not charge if they cannot afford a donation. A gift of $400 represents 40 nights at the house, located next to Renown.

The suspect is believed to be male, pictured in the image, and was accompanied by a female companion.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Washoe County Sheriff’s Detective Division at (775) 328-3320, or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900.
