By Dave Mulligan
Admittedly, I write too often about Donald Trump because I feel so personally insulted by his existence in such an important position of authority and as our national representative on the global stage. However, I’ve slowly realized that it’s not merely the bent fool in the White House that hangs like an anchor on my psyche; it’s the relatively large number of Americans who accept his existence and say nothing. I could stand in line at the movies next to an otherwise decent person who has no problem with Trump or may even support him, even after his daily gaffes, missteps, and blatant display of undeniable incompetence and corruption. He’s a horrible, repulsive man and our neighbors are ok with that.
Why?
Because he’s a Christian?
Please.
Because he’s a straight talker?
Just stop talking.
Because your taxes will go down? Well, maybe they will, depending on your bracket. Mostly, it’s those at the very top who’ll benefit in that regard. That is the “donor class” and is by design.
Because of his Supreme Court picks? Well, at least that’s a legitimate issue and a valid claim. As a liberal, it goes against my progressive sensibilities but is at least a real issue.
Whatever your reasons for continuing to voice either support or just a lack of resistance, I suggest that you have sold your soul in a Faustian bargain and I am publicly questioning your ethical standing. It’s time for the folks on the Right to admit that your man is dirty and you need to fix the problem. In the next cycle, please consult your conscience and sense of decency and put forth a decent human being.
