Local Band Alert: ThisisReno takes a closer look at local bands in this series of 5-minute interviews. This week we chat with the Snakeboy Johnson Band.

ThisisReno: How did you get started and who are your fans?

Snakeboy Johnson: I started playing drums at age 10. My native uncle told me to keep going, so I started playing guitar, etc. etc. Our fans are of all ages.

TIR: How would you describe your sound and style?

SJ: Our band is a Texas-style blues, rock, and soul band. We just relocated here from Austin, Texas. I have original songs and we do play covers, but we do them our own way, more like a “showcase band.” We sound like Albert King, Roy Buchanan, SRV, Albert Collins, Santana, and Joe Cocker mixed into a blender and poured out into a gig pitcher.

TIR: Where can people listen to your music when you aren’t playing live?

SJ: People can hear our music via our website at SnakeboyJohnsonBand.com, Facebook, ReverbNation, and CD Baby.

TIR: Where do you see the band in five years?

SJ: I see the band in five years having fun for the next lifetime. Music is timeless…..old is new, to some …I can’t explain it, you just have to see the show.

TIR: How can people get ahold of you?

SJ: They can contact the website and social media.
