A “March Against Hate” has been scheduled for August 27, 2017 at 6 p.m. at the Joe Crowley Student Union on the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) campus.

A statement posted online said that the march coincides with a rally in the Bay Area.

“As a response to the Nazi & KKK rally in Charlottesville and the ones that will be held in the Bay Area on the 27th, we are hosting a Black Lives Matter March Against Hate in Solidarity with all of the other protests being held by Anti-racist & Anti-fascist groups,” said organizer Krys Ro. “One of the most notable faces from the hateful and violent White supremacists rally in Charlottesville is a student at UNR (we do not in anyway encourage any violence towards this student).

“To reclaim our city and redeem our great university we need to come together to show the country that Reno does not share the hateful ideologies of White Supremacy. The biggest little city is a progressive one that is marching towards the future and not moving backwards.”

Organizers said that Black Lives Matter (BLM) campaigns against violence toward black people and does not condone violence. Those wishing to endorse the event can contact BLM online.

“Every BLM demonstration we’ve held in Northern (Nevada) so far has been peaceful, and we plan to keep up with that tradition and to continue to show our support and love to all walks of life,” Ro said.
