The Reno Justice Coalition is holding a rally at the University of Nevada, Reno on Thursday from noon to 2 p.m.
The coalition wants students to participate in the rally, which, organizers said, is part of a larger national “Million Student March.”
The coalition’s platform:
1.) Tuition free public college
2.) Cancellation of all student debt
3.) $15 minimum wage for campus workers
The protest will be in front of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center and will continue throughout campus.
One hundred people are estimated to attend, according to organizers.
Escenthio Marigny, student leader and president of the Reno Justice Coalition, said the protest will attack bigger institutions and systematic problems within society.
“The privatization of higher education, poor working conditions and wages for workers and faculty, and the reality of student debt are a part of systematic trends in the U.S. and abroad,” said Marigny. “The university is a microcosm of society at large, where the few profit and the many take on the brunt of their errors.”
