The Reno Arts and Culture Commission gave a presentation today to the Reno City Council, noting its 25 years as being the official adviser to the city for its arts and culture.
The commission was created in 1991 and is credited for creating Artown in 1996.
Commission Chair Willis Allen said he was grateful to the city for its support of the arts, and noted that the amount of funding requests that comes to the commission far exceeds available funding for grant requests for projects around the city.
Its budget for fiscal year 15/16 is $194,000, and requests for projects totaled $346,115.
The commission has nine volunteer members appointed by the City Council.
