dcim103goprog1777498-2TRUCKEE, Calif. — The High Fives Foundation awarded a July 2015 grant to Reno-based Empowerment Athlete, David Hewel.

This $1,750 grant will go towards personal training, massage and acupuncture at the CR Johnson Healing Center in Truckee, California.

“My recovery goal is to walk again and continue following my passions in snow sports, winged sports and music,” said Hewel. “I have been continuously working hard with therapists and training to become stronger and more mobile than I was before my injury,

“David works out in the Healing Center weekly and is making tremendous strides toward his ultimate goal of walking,” said Roy Tuscany, High Fives Foundation Executive Director. “His hard work makes him a leader by example for other athletes to witness.”

Hewel was in a speed flying accident at Heavenly Resort in South Lake Tahoe in June 2014. He crashed and was rushed to Renown where he was told that he had suffered a fracture of his T-12 vertebrae.
