Watch a video of the farmers market below.
The Thursday Downtown Farmers Market at the Sands kicked off its opening day, June 11 with a great turnout. The sweet smell of fresh, ripe peaches, strawberries, blackberries and more wafted through the air while shoppers were tempted with free samples at nearly every booth. The vegetables were bright in color and ready for grilling or going in salads.
The vendors will return weekly at 4 pm through August 27. Each week will also bring a new band to perform live from 7pm to 10pm.
The Novelists will perform on June 18. Their unique and energetic live show includes cliffhanger storytelling, multiple lead singers and signature four-part harmonies.
In 2013, they introduced The Novelists Book Club, a music subscription giving fans two original releases each month. In March 2014, they released Book One, the first of two albums chosen from the Book Club material. In addition to a headlining gig at Dallas Cowboys Stadium, The Novelists have become a mainstay on the West Coast festival, college and house concert circuits. They’ve shared the stage with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, John Prine and Daryl Stuermer (Genesis).
The Farmers Market opens weekly on Thursday at 4 p.m. and bands perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Attendance is free.
It is located south of Third St. on Arlington Ave. The full entertainment schedule is available online. In addition to fresh produce and live entertainment, shoppers can find craft vendors, food vendors and a beer garden.
