Their promise: “MiScenarios is Reno’s only indoor digital shooting range that provides scenario-based firearms training. MiScenerios promotes the safe use and ownership of firearms through education.”
The reality: Wow. After just a five-minute lesson and a lot of dialogue with demonstrations, I became aware of the intricacies of not only using a firearm but also being placed into a situation where I might have to use one.
The take-home lesson: Communication and awareness of laws are key, aside from obvious safety considerations, of course.
I’m not even sure (I could be wrong) seasoned shooters or hobby target shooters would necessarily know the importance of the kind of communication instructor Jay Hawkins relayed to me before and after my first simulated scenario. It was eye-opening to say the least, mainly in showing me how much I don’t know.
Scenarios have a whole psychological dimension that is completely foreign to the experience of someone who learned to shoot as a kid but has not shot much since. I’m fairly confident in my lack of confidence and can see the need for why, should this be a concern, these kinds of drills and regular practice are a must to carry and use a weapon legally, ethically and morally.
