If you hold an insurance policy from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nevada, Commissioner Scott Kipper has a warning for you.
The insurance company has been the victim of a cyberattack which has compromised the personal information of thousands of current and past Nevada insurance policy holders.
“We have been in close communications with Anthem about this issue, and are monitoring the situation diligently,” said Commissioner Kipper. “As the consumer protection agency for insurance issues in Nevada, we will ensure that all affected Anthem policyholders in Nevada are provided protection against this data breach.”
Anthem is currently working to notify its customers, and will be providing identity theft protection and credit monitoring free of charge.
Nevadans who believe they may have been affected can call 877-263-7995, the toll-free number Anthem has established to assist consumers. Anthem has also set up a special website at anthemfacts.com to answer questions. The Division of Insurance may also be contacted with concerns or questions at 702-486-4009 in Las Vegas, and 775-687-0772 in Northern Nevada.
