Reno is full of historic landmarks and old buildings that deserve to be preserved. Because there is so much love for Reno’s history and so much effort is being put forth to preserve that history, the City of Reno Historical Resources Commission is accepting nominations for achievements in historical preservation.
There are six categories people can nominate in: distinguished service, advocate, residential properties, non-residential properties, historic landmarks, and historical projects (which includes publication, research project, media production, or other initiative).
“The City of Reno is excited to bring this program back,” says At-Large Reno City Councilmember David Bobzien, who was recently appointed to the Historical Resources Commission. “The Preservation Awards were an annual tradition until budgetary cutbacks forced their postponement in 2010. Once again we’ll be able to formally recognize the great work being done in our community in this important arena.”
This year’s recipients will be announced and recognized by the City of Reno in May as part of National Preservation Month.
The nomination form, detailed descriptions of the six categories, and a complete list of past recipients are available at Reno.gov. For more information, email Claudia Hanson at [email protected].
