Tooth decay, or dental carries, affects children in the United States more than any other chronic infectious disease as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

One way to combat this statistic is through education. By teaching kids about oral health and how to properly care for the mouth, Truckee Meadows can become a region where fewer children are afflicted with daily pain due to tooth decay.

“We believe that education is the first step toward a community full of healthy children who will someday grow to be healthy adults,” said Jason Champagne, Dentist and COO at Champagne Family Dentistry.

“Having poor oral health during childhood can effect key growth elements such as performance in school and success later in life,” Champagne shared.

Champagne Family Dental staff members volunteer to read stories and guide activities teaching young children about the importance of oral health.

Children also have the opportunity to read aloud to the group and interact with other kids through this fun learning event.

Barnes and Noble Booksellers is located at 5555 South Virginia Street, in Reno.
