Peanutcracker ballet returns to Carson City December 6, 2014

peanutcracker-379x500-8566334-4447406CARSON CITY –The Sierra Nevada Ballet presents “PEANUTCRACKER – The Story in a Nut Shell” on December 6, 2014 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center. The ballet runs at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” PEANUTCRACKER is a shorter, 45-minute  version designed for families with “children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” said Rosine Bena, artistic director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet who wrote and choreographed this traditional holiday show.

This year’s performances features Malik Berry from the Dance Theatre of Harlem and Chloe Felesina from Ballet X and the Sierra Nevada Ballet professional company. More than 50 local children will perform live on stage for the event.

The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers will present classic Christmas songs before the 2 p.m. event. The Carson City Symphony’s Strings In The Schools group will perform holiday music prior to the 7 p.m. performance. The pre-show entertainment starts 45 minutes before each event.

Ticket prices start at $6 for ages 15 and under; all other tickets are $11 and can be reserved by calling Gina Nelson at 775-220-4452 or emailing [email protected]. Tickets are also on sale on-site before each show.

School Presentations – December 5 & 16
Schools throughout Northern Nevada can reserve field trips to enjoy this special holiday event on Dec. 5 at the Carson City Community Center and on Dec. 16 at the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts.
